Challenge 20Q

Wow - artificial intelligence is so cool! Most people have played the game 20 Questions at some point in their life. You know how it goes. One person thinks of something, animal mineral or vegetable, (depending on how honest they are, they might be asked to write it down on a scrap of paper so that they can't cheat and change their mind half way through the questioning)... and the other person/s have up to 20 questions to work out what they're thinking of. The questions have to be answerable with a yes or no response - if the questioner/s guess right within 20 questions they win - if not, the other person wins. Remember? Good.Challenge 20Q is based on this age old, after-dinner game but of course it's a 21st century invention so it does it with more pizazz. Simply place the Challenge 20Q console in front of you - think of something, anything... and let the fun begin. Challenge 20Q doesn't limit you to animal, vegetable or mineral, it also offers you 'other' and 'unknown' - which when you consider task ahead, is a pretty gracious way to start. Once you've answered this question the game begins. Challenge 20Q will then display a series of questions on the funky convex monitor which players have to respond to - either pressing yes, no, sometimes, rarely or unknown. If you make a mistake answering a question you can press the 'undo' button and re-enter the correct information. Unbelievably Challenge 20Q may try to guess what you're thinking of before it's even asked the full compliment of questions but even if doesn't, it will almost certainly have the right answer for you by the end of the game. It's truly extraordinary and people of all ages are hooked from the word go. Not only is 20Q a great game for individuals but it's perfect for teams as well. You can either split into two groups and try to be the first team to come up with something so obscure that Challenge 20Q can't get it or you can play against the unit e.g. one player comes up with an idea and writes it on a piece of paper - they then answer 20Qs questions honestly while the rest of the team watches - if a team member guesses right before Challenge 20Q then the team wins. Although this is a good idea for kids as it gets them reading and thinking latterly don't be deceived -it's the grown ups who love it the most. Perhaps that's because we have the added fascination of wondering how on earth a plastic console, even a cleverly programmed plastic console, can possibly second guess a human and get it right! 3 x C Batteries (Not Included) read more
